Everyday Rewards vs Flybuys: How Fuel Loyalty Discounts Actually Work

A complete guide to Everyday Rewards and Flybuys fuel discounts in Australia. Which stations accept which cards, how much you save, and whether it's worth it.

Australia has two major supermarket-linked fuel discount programs: Everyday Rewards (Woolworths) and Flybuys (Coles). Both offer 4 cents per litre off fuel — but at different stations, with different rules. Here's how they actually work.

How the discounts work

Both programs follow the same basic model:

  1. Shop at the supermarket — spend $30 or more in a single transaction
  2. Earn a fuel discount voucher — automatically loaded to your loyalty card
  3. Fill up at a participating station — scan your card at the pump
  4. Get 4c/L off — applied instantly at the bowser, up to a maximum fill (usually 150 litres for cars)

The voucher is typically valid for about 4 weeks. If you do a weekly grocery shop, you'll usually have a valid voucher available whenever you fill up.

Everyday Rewards (Woolworths → Ampol)

Earn at: Woolworths, BIG W, BWS Redeem at: EG Ampol stations and participating Ampol Foodary stations

Important details

  • EG Ampol stations (operated by EG Group) accept Everyday Rewards at all locations
  • Ampol Foodary and Ampol branded stations: most participate, but not all. BowserBuddy marks the participating ones
  • The discount stacks with the station's posted price — you get 4c/L off whatever the board price is
  • You earn 1 Everyday Rewards point per $1 spent on fuel (not worth much, but it adds up)

The catch

Some Ampol-branded stations are not operated by EG and don't participate in the Everyday Rewards fuel program. The branding can be confusing — the station might say "Ampol" on the sign but not accept the discount. BowserBuddy shows the discounted price only at confirmed participating stations.

Flybuys (Coles → Reddy Express)

Earn at: Coles, Kmart, Target, Liquorland Redeem at: Reddy Express stations (formerly Coles Express — the rebrand was completed by Viva Energy in 2025)

Important details

  • Reddy Express stations (operated by Viva Energy, which runs Shell-branded fuel) accept Flybuys fuel discounts at all locations
  • The discount is 4c/L off the posted price
  • Flybuys members choose between either the 4c/L discount or 8 bonus Flybuys points per litre per docket — these are mutually exclusive options set in the Flybuys app. You also earn a base rate of 1 point per $2 on fuel regardless of which option you pick.

The catch

Reddy Express prices tend to be higher than average to begin with. The 4c discount brings them closer to the average, but they're rarely the cheapest option even with the discount. Always compare the post-discount price against nearby stations.

How much do you actually save?

Let's do the maths:

  • 4c/L on a 50L fill = $2.00 saved per fill
  • Weekly fill-ups = $104 saved per year
  • Fortnightly fill-ups = $52 saved per year

That's assuming you always have a valid voucher. If you do a $30+ grocery shop every week (most households do), you'll have one almost continuously.

Is $100/year worth it?

Yes — because it costs you nothing extra. You're doing the grocery shop anyway. The only "cost" is remembering to scan the card at the pump. There's no annual fee, no minimum spend at the station, and no complicated points conversion.

Which program is better?

It depends on where you shop and where you fill up:

The real answer: use whichever one you'd naturally earn through your grocery shopping. If you shop at Woolworths, use Everyday Rewards. If you shop at Coles, use Flybuys. Don't switch supermarkets for the fuel discount — the grocery prices matter more.

Can you use both?

Yes, but not at the same time on the same fill. You can have both loyalty cards and use whichever has a valid voucher. Some households split — one person shops at Woolworths, the other at Coles — and always have a voucher available.

Seeing discounted prices on BowserBuddy

BowserBuddy lets you toggle Everyday Rewards and Flybuys discounts in the filter bar. When toggled on, every eligible station on the map shows the post-discount price — so you can compare the real price you'd pay, not just the board price.

This is useful because a station with a high board price but a loyalty discount might still be more expensive than a nearby independent with a lower board price and no discount. Seeing the actual price you'd pay at each station is the only way to know for sure.

Other ways to save on fuel

Loyalty discounts are one piece of the puzzle. For a complete breakdown, see 10 practical ways to save money on fuel in Australia.

The biggest savings come from comparing prices between stations — the 15–20c/L difference between the cheapest and most expensive station in your area dwarfs the 4c loyalty discount. Use both strategies together for maximum savings.
